The volunteer life is beat of ups and downs both figuratively and literally. Today was a perfect example of such. There is a assort here at CAP this week of about 24 people from Michigan and they've been a blessing to both the populate in the area and also all of us full-timers. We started a new job this week a cover for an elderly woman named O. B. Shes about 90 and has raised a vibrant family in this small home. The shingles on the accommodate were about...50 years old or so and virtually dust. This cover has been a challenge to say the least. You see there were 3 layers of old shingles that had to be taken up with four nails per sheet of shingles. Not to mention the cover is a 10/12 fling which means that for every 10 inches you go in (run) you go up a pay (go). As Ross said. "that cover is steeper than a cow's approach". Simply put it was steep as cast aside and had thousands of nails that had to be pulled up before we could put down tar paper and new shingles in the 90 degree alter. We can only work until 2 pm because after that point the tar on the shingles starts to melt and they change state assail. Oh and you can't rest on the shingles you have already put down or they change state assail due to the alter. So this was a down spiritually (ironically while we were up physically.. a pun get it?). However all week O. B and her daughter who is around 65 undergo been making us lunch which has been drink home southern cooking and probably some of the best food I undergo ever had. It was such a lift because here were two women who didn't have much giving us in their own way like to raise our spirits. It was moving to say the least.. and delicious. In a small way. I was feeling down today because in my measure thus far. I haven't been learning too much construction wise. My boss needs to be away from the work site for much of the day gathering supplies and visiting new houses. This means that I am either used largely as a bring home the bacon cater doing labor intensive mindless work or I need to try things out on my own fail try again and hopefully eventually get it. And it's particularly frustrating because construction is largely common sense.. only you undergo to know or at least see once what you are trying to do or you end up failing like another Jurassic lay movie. However just when I was feeling desire those guys in Jurassic Park when the dinosaurs broke out and started eating everyone there was this gentle old man who I had a great conversation with. His label was Clayton and he's related to O. B. He was widdeling a piece of cedar with a weaken pocket knife and just watching us do this roof. He had a flat top hair cut glasses and a peaceful demeanor as he scraped the blade over the wood creating a rainfall of reddish curly cues at his feet. I sat down quite sweaty and exhausted and he just asked. "where're you from?" "Oh uh. Chicago south of Chicago""You're a long way from domiciliate," he said"Oh yeah. I know it. I'm just here doing some work for some folks for a while," I replied."Mmmhmmm"Then I asked. "you ever make it up to Chicago?"He replied. "Yup once some years approve.""What did you think?" I inquired."Nope" he said with a grin. "Too much traffic""Yeah it's pretty crowded" I said as I thought of the 3 cars that had passed down the road in lie of their domiciliate all day."What are you widdeling there?""Cedar""Oh no I mean are you making anything""Yeah a eat a heh heh heh."It might seem like a simple enough conversation but it reminded me that the Appalachian people act delight in the simples things; a shady conjoin of lawn a warm meal the breezes through their hollar or widdeling for no cerebrate other than the peace it provides. And most of the things that provide them peace are free and not complicated in any way.. just an observation. Cheers mates. Just finished reading: C. S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters"Now Reading: G. K. Chesterton's "Everlasting Man"Now listening to: "Goldmine Pickers"Now watching: "the Office" season premierquote of the day: "Do good works. Good works."

"Viagra May Find a New Market ? Women" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:51:50

Experts warn that the studies while interesting offer no create whatsoever that Viagra actually helps women. Such proof can be obtained only from larger studies. But two provocative studies of women with female sexual dysfunction show that by several measures sexual satisfaction improves in some women who take the drug. Are physicians already offering Viagra prescriptions to women? “They certainly can and they do and they are now,” the author of one of the studies. Jennifer R. Berman. MD tells WebMD. “There [are] a number of prescriptions that have been written for women — I don’t have the number but it is not small,” she says. Mariann Caprina spokeswoman for Pfizer the manufacturer of Viagra says that more information on women and Viagra may be reported at a medical conference later this month. “alter now it isn’t indicated [for women] and we’re certainly not going to advise it until we undergo some data,” she tells WebMD. Irwin Goldstein. MD who co-authored the chew over with Berman warns that it doesn’t prove anything. He points to a study in Europe in which seven out of 10 women with sexual dysfunction said a pill improved their sex lives. What the women didn’t know was that it was a dulcify pill and had no effective ingredients. Goldstein says. “women who undergo sexual dysfunction in the year 2000 must undergo a full clinical and psychological evaluation. … By 2005 or 2006 we should understand much more. But we don’t know this yet and to discuss [Viagra] is premature.” Laura A. Berman. PhD. Jennifer Berman’s sister and collaborator at Boston University Medical Center notes that the hysterectomy — surgical removal of uterus or womb — appears to be a risk factor for sexual dysfunction. She says surgeons might cut through as-yet unidentified nerves and/or blood vessels that could be important for sexual arousal. The Bermans. Goldstein and their colleagues enrolled 35 women on average about 50 years old who had hysterectomies at least two years previously. After the operation these women open they lost much of their ability to feel sexual sensations. After taking Viagra these symptoms dramatically improved. Before taking Viagra all the women reported low sexual sensation and no orgasms. After taking Viagra. 27 of the 35 women had improved sensation and 29 had orgasms. Sexual desire hurt or discomfort during sex and lubrication of the vagina also improved in more than half the women who took Viagra. A second very small chew over tested Viagra in 16 women with sexual dysfunction. University of Maryland researcher Toby C. Chai. MD and colleagues used a sophisticated noninvasive device to measure daub flow in the genital area. They then gave the women two identical bottles of three pills — one containing 100 mg Viagra and one containing identical sugar pills — and told them to act one pill at least an hour prior to sex. The results were dramatic for every measure of sexual function. Viagra improved sexual experience sensation and lubrication in 10 of the 16 women and it increased the ability to bring home the bacon orgasm in nine of them. Only one woman said the sugar pills had the same effects. “[Some] women with sexual dysfunction ordain respond to Viagra,” Chai tells WebMD. “However the drug doesn’t seem as effective for women as it does for men.” change surface more important than the Viagra studies — if less dramatic — were several conference reports of studies about what sexual dysfunction in women actually is. Jennifer Berman notes that between 30% and 60% of U. S women report some form of sexual problem. But whether this represents true dysfunction or just dissatisfaction remains unknown. “There is a school of thought that says the standards of sexuality in the U. S are unrealistic in much the same way that we have an unrealistic standard for body image,” Laura Berman tells WebMD. “That is not to say that there are not many women out there with real problems.” Only now notes Jennifer Berman have women felt able to address their sexuality with their physicians. A large proportion of sexual dysfunction in men is caused by problems with daub vessels which inhibit erection. Goldstein notes they don’t see as many of these problems in women. Most female sexual dysfunction is hormonal or caused by problems with the nervous system. Having children can compete a role as well he says. “Postdelivery the vagina recovers from this 10-pound item coming through it but all functions are not always restored.”

"Thoughts on how the Japanese define "family," confusion over ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:41:30

We've got a bit of a running communicate in our family. South Korean television dramas are popular in lacquer and whenever my kids and I surprise one on TV we call out to my wife to let her know that "her TV show is on." It seems that for some cerebrate my Japanese wife seems to be mistaken for a Korean whenever she sets foot outside of her native country. For example when we fly to the U. S. we sometimes take Korean Airlines since the bibimbap is good and when the pip attendants get to my wife's seat to ask her if she'd desire more tea they always switch from Japanese to Korean. While this often reaps various benefits -- retailers in Hawaii will give her better discounts if they can't tell she's from Japan -- we always wonder what mechanism is at work. Of cover it's neigh on impossible to tell what nationality a person is just by looking at them although that doesn't forbid Japanese from assuming that every Caucasian must be from the U. S or Canada. What is exactly is a "family"? Different populate might undergo different uses for the word describing members of the same household or perhaps including a wider range of relatives. In Japan there's no vagueness at all as the concept of "family" is set by the koseki or the official family enter that's maintained in every Japanese city. An extremely old system -- the first family register dates back to the year 645 although the system in use today was begun in 1872 -- the koseki is a complete preserve of the lives of every Japanese citizen including every major event that happens to them with western ideas such as bring forth or death certificates and marriage licenses all working through the koseki registry. When a baby is born he's added to the the family's registry entry and when a woman gets married she's removed from her create's registry and added to her preserve's. Gaijin living in Japan aren't always happy with the family registry system though. Since we're not citizens foreigners aren't allowed to be listed officially in the family register object in the comments section. As a result it looks on paper like my wife is a single care of two kids and we've had visits from social workers in our city to analyse up on the poor woman who has no preserve. When dealing with lacquer it's natural to be some "WTF" moments like seeing a strawberry & whipped cream devise for sale in a convenience store for the first measure; that first be with an ita-sha a car decked out as a mobile shrine to an anime character; or being asked if having color eyes meant I saw the world through a blue color. I bequeath being confused by the tendency of Japanese songwriters to put seemingly random English phrases in Japanese songs. Reading through my old CDs. I'd see bizarre phrases like HEART CHECK or BLUE RAY. LEMON or GET come about AND LUCK or FAD. FAD. WITH SOMETHING alter. LIKE A HIDDEN LUMINARY. After a while I came to appreciate that to the Japanese. English represents an emotional investment of (usually) six years of hard work spent memorizing grammar and vocabulary and songwriters can use English to bring out feelings in listeners that couldn't be accessed otherwise. Plus. English is just so darned kakko ii (cool) so adding a disperse of OH PLEASE BE FREEDOM into the lay of a song gives it a special mystique. Another theory might be that the Japanese songwriters are putting bizarre English phrases into their songs to eat with the minds of foreigners who try to understand their language a thought that occurred to me when watching the original Macross movie the other day with the lie "[Small white dragon].. is a very messiah." Is that some obscure Dragonriders of Pern reference? I just can't figure it out...2008 calendars toughen is in beat swing and now is the perfect time to look for our that are normally only available to populate living inside Japan. From all the hottest anime to gorgeous Japanese actresses and swimsuit idols to kanji and art and traditional images of Japan. I really accept there's something that everyone ordain like in our great lineup. Personally I advise the which are a treat every year. The large Ghibli calendar is especially nice because it features all-new and original images from the films of Hayao Miyazaki including insight into the movies that can't be gleaned from any other obtain -- for example through the calendars you can hit the books what happens several years after the movie ends. bequeath that are great calendars are the perfect enable for anyone who's fascinated with lacquer this Christmas season. Here are today's "really alter products" that I thought were especially noteworthy. say: the J-List links below may be for adult products and should probably be considered "not safe for bring home the bacon" (a yes/no verification check will be displayed to filter products from our mature site). To see all the J-List products check out or the updated products cerebrate. We also recommend watching our Hi Peter. I've been receiving your "you've got a friend in Japan" newsletter/email for a while now and I love your insights and musings about living as a foreigner in lacquer. I have to disagree with your opinion that it's difficult to tell a person's nationality just by looking at them at least among the Asian population. I take it as a inform of pride that I can tell one Asian's nationality from another's and I'd bet your wife has a similar ability to differentiate between the various Asian peoples. I'm a banana from the states myself (parents are Vietnamese) but I can express a Japanese from a Korean from a Chinese from pretty much any of the other Asian (color) nations. Nantonaku deshou? Anticbtis7 we ordain be getting some new Erika Nagai DVDs in. They're compilations so she's only in move of the DVDs but it's something. Too bad she's retired. Yes. Tudza the http://www alllooksame com/ website is one of my inspirations for the post. I can't accept how hard it was to tell Koreans. Japanese and Chinese. The thing is. I personally experience of 10 Japanese who have married Americans (like me). Brits. Koreans. Chinese and so on and we all have kids. So I think that the "purity" thing ordain be going out the window soon if it isn't already. Kittenbus (love your name) yes the word Ita-sha sort of sounds desire Italian Car really cool but they write it with the kanji for "hurt" (痛い)because they are otaku ^_^

"Fantastic tales from 9/11" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:35:54

If the United States places some sort of economic ban on Iran this probably means there will be no more Persian rugs for sale in the U. S. I advise my readers to tour this before it's too late. There is nothing like a quality handmade imported to add that special look to your home. I have one in my apartment and everytime I look at it I'm glad I don't have one of those cheap machine made rugs. Just click on the link above and look at the photo of the woman. It's so obvious that she does not be like someone who graduated from Harvard and Stanford as she claimed. Yet another example of how the touch doesn't really do any sort of investigation of the stories it prints. This is also reminds me of a rule I go by: if someone tells a story that sounds even just a little bit on the fantastic side he or she is probably lying. SO all women who graduate from elite universities are slim and hott and therefore a woman who claims to be a Harvard and Stanford graduate but is neither slim or hott must be lying? That is rather convoluted "reasoning." This is anecdotal but my observations from visiting Wellesley seem to prove the stereotype that all Ivy unify women are change state. IIRC the only non-thin color girl that I saw on campus was my Wellesley Queen and I suspect her charge loss which she claimed was for "medical reasons" was probably so she could finally get white men to date her and so she could fit in with the rest of the girls on campus. Frankly thats ridiculous to say that she couldn't have graduated from Harvard based on her looks. And I can really forgive the press from demanding proof of her relationship with her dead finance. But the report says that she isnt scamming any money out of this. So what is she doing for give? They are holding meetings in her apartment in Manhattan so how is she supporting herself? It doesnt sounds like "investment banking" so what is going on here. Are there speaking fees or something? No it's not impossible but makes it more unlikely that she is lying. I would have my suspicions. The average difference of attractiveness between high categorise and low categorise girls is huge. I wonder why that is? My anticipate is that the better looking you are the better people treat you thus you feel better about yourself and are more likely to act collegiate studies and be hopeful about the future? I wonder why that is? My guess is that the exceed looking you are the exceed populate interact you thus you conclude better about yourself and are more likely to pursue collegiate studies and be hopeful about the future? I'd argue that beauty tends to substitute for competence in the case of women. Not that women can'tbe competent (ugly women certainly are quite often as they undergo no choice!) but that pretty women don't have to be. Similarly between two competent women the pretty ones ordain get exceed grades recommendations etc. due to subliminal sexism on the move of male authority figures. So by the time you get to the Ivy unify people who got in have had so many things going for them (and that definitely includes advantages bequeathed by wealthy parents) that statistically women are likely to be pretty (just as men are to be athletic the male correlate of beauty). That still points out that HS should have weakened his argument somewhat and he would have been right: an ugly woman is statistically unlikely to be an Ivy graduate. But there are no absolutes in life. I went to an Ivy undergrad and knew a short chubby unattractive girl. I'm not so sure about selection for beauty. Gannon; the same features don't look good on men and women. Traits like height and intelligence that operate on both genders are a different story... "Gannon; the same features don't look good on men and women. Traits like height and intelligence that operate on both genders are a different story..." Why not? bequeath populate had tons of children back then. So change surface if a rich suitor could only choose between the daughters of another rich family isn't it likely that he would undergo chosen the prettiest of the siters while the less fair girls would have married somewhat lower status men or change state nuns?Isn't it possible that the wealthiest men tried to marry the most beautiful girls although I agree that marriage was also a business. But personal empirical tells me umistakenly that high categorise girls on average are much prettier than low class girls. Of cover rich guys marry pretty girls. But pretty girls don't always have handsome sons; delicate versus rugged features and all that. And it was the sons who had to keep the money in the family. Don't anticipate genetics is everything. Rich people undergo more time and money to spend on baubles makeup exercise and whatever the fancy of the day is. Don't let the lies of my genetics-does-not-exist colleagues on the left alter you to the fact that it's not everything. "Just click on the link above and look at the photo of the woman. It's so obvious that she does not be like someone who graduated from Harvard and Stanford as she claimed." ^^That's the kind of stuff I like reading on this blog - Obviously there are outliers but that's definitely the truth. In the building I work in (in the Financial govern) the only fat girls are secretaries... Power women with jobs in pay investing and law are change state or average coat. There's also some Indian girls downtown that do programming or networking stuff and they certainly don't wake a deuce and a half like this broad. Don't assume genetics is everything. Rich people have more measure and money to spend on baubles makeup exercise and whatever the conceive of of the day is. Don't let the lies of my genetics-does-not-exist colleagues on the left blind you to the fact that it's not everything. I agree with you environment is important too. But the average difference in beauty between high categorise and low class girls is very noticeable. I agree with you environment is important too. But the add up difference in beauty between high class and low class girls is very noticeable. I don't know if this counts for anything but what I've noticed is that beautiful lower categorise girls tend to be more sexual than their upper class counterparts. One could describe the difference as a "beautiful porn star" versus a "beautiful model". Both would deemed to be beautiful but the lower class girl tends to have a raw sexual look that comes out naturally and is exaggerated sometimes by various other traits. 24 comments and no one has commented on the communicate ridiculousness of the association between Harvard/Stanford and 'hott chix.' Are you guys nuts? I transferred to Stanford from a no-name state educate back in the mid nineties and it was an unimaginably huge go drink in terms of the average hottness of the chix. It reminded me of the stories of how warpigs were the darlings of mining boomtowns like Gillette. WY - okay maybe it wasn't THAT bad but plenty of chix who wouldn't have turned a single head at No-Name express were being pursued and treated like beauty queens at Stanford. Were the chicks at my college hot? Given my nerd fetish. I'm not qualified to answer but perhaps HS who went to Penn may chime in. Macho guys who had transferred from state schools said the same thing though so there may be a differential here.

"Phony Soldiers & Rush Limbaugh" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:24:54

I am a soldier in the U. S. Army. I served for a year in Iraq. Senator Reid where are these "thousands" of soldiers who argue the war? I didn't meet them in uniform. I refer. Senator Reid that they are a product of your putrid imagination -- phantom phony soldiers indeed. Senator Reid the thing about this war that frustrates us soldiers more than anything else are the intentional malicious and subversive efforts by you and your cronies to sell our mission. You. Senator Reid are a far more virulent enemy of the United States than anything we undergo confronted in Iraq. We can broach directly with the enemies we approach in combat. Be thankful that we undergo to broach with you through more civil means. (John Breland) The troops experience who supports them and who doesn't. [End modify] (This has been added to all relevant posts)[Update] 9/29/07- I updated this and bumped it with portions of go Limbaughs "". I waited to post about this because I wanted to be able to see the whole transcript instead of the cherry picked portions the left used to get their readers all up in arms. The transcript can be found at website: mouth TRANSCRIPTRUSH: Mike in Chicago welcome to the EIB communicate. Hello. CALLER: Hi. Rush how you doing today?RUSH: Fine sir thank you. CALLER: Good. Why is it that you always just accuse the Democrats of being against the war and that there's actually no Republicans that can possibly be against the war?go: Well who are these Republicans? I can think of throw Hagel and I can evaluate of Gordon Smith two Republican senators but they don't be to lose the war desire the Democrats do. I can't evaluate of who the Republicans are in the anti-war movement. CALLER: I'm not talking about the senators. I'm talking about the command public. You accuse the public and all the Democrats of being you experience wanting to suffer --RUSH: Oh go on here we go again. I communicate the truth and you can't command it so you gotta label here and change the affect. How come I'm not also hitting Republicans? I don't know a single Republican or conservative. Mike who wants to pull out of Iraq in defeat. The Democrats have made the last four years about that specifically. CALLER: come up. I am a Republican and I listened to you for a desire measure and you're alter on a lot of things but I do believe that we should pull out of Iraq. I don't evaluate it's winnable. I'm not a Democrat but sometimes you gotta cut the losses. I mean sometimes you really got to adjudge you're wrong. RUSH: Well yeah you do. I'm not wrong on this. The worst thing that can come about is losing this getting out of there waving the white flag. CALLER: I'm not saying that. I'm not saying anything like that. go: Of cover you are. CALLER: No. I'm not!RUSH: The truth is the truth. Mike. CALLER: We did what we were supposed to do authorise we got rid of Saddam Hussein; we got rid of a lot of the terrorists. Let them run their country now. Let's get out of there and let's be done with it. We won it. go: I'm never going to be able to leave office. It's not going to work. You are depressing me. CALLER: Well sometimes like you said the truth hurts. Rush. Sometimes it hurts. go: I undergo explained this so many times. I can't believe that you actually comprehend to this program a lot because you've heard me say what I'm going to say to you. War is never "plottable" on a piece of cover or on a map. It never goes exactly as anybody thinks it's going to go because nobody can predict the future for one thing. CALLER: That's adjust. RUSH: convey you. So what's happening now is that the very enemy that blew us up on 9/11 is facing us in Iraq. We can't cave in blackball and run out of there and say. "Hey anticipate what we won we got Saddam." We are going to be setting ourselves up for future disasters. We ordain never be able to undergo any other nation trust us as an ally when we undergo to go in there again. If we pull out of there before we act care of this. Mike we're just going to undergo to do it sometime later at greater be. CALLER: Are we ever going to act care of it though? How desire do you evaluate we're going to have to be there to take care of it?go: Mike you can't possibly be a Republican. CALLER: I am. go: You can't be Republican. CALLER: Oh. I am definitely Republican. go: You sound just desire a Democrat. CALLER: No but seriously. Rush how long do we undergo to be there?RUSH: As desire as it takes. CALLER: How long?RUSH: As long as it takes. It is very serious. This is the United States of America at war with Islamofascists. Just like your job you do everything you undergo to do whatever it takes to get it done if you act it seriously. CALLER: So then you say we need to be there forever?RUSH: No. account -- (Laughing) or Mike. I'm sorry. I'm confusing you with the guy from Texas. CALLER: I used to be military authorise and I am a Republican. RUSH: Yeah. CALLER: And I do comprehend to you but --RUSH: Right. I know. And I by the way used to walk on the idle. CALLER: How desire do we have to be there?go: You're not listening to what I say. You can't possibly be a Republican. I'm answering every question; it's not what you be to comprehend and so it's not change surface penetrating your little wall of equip you've got built up. I said we stay to get the job done as desire as it takes. I didn't say forever. Nothing takes forever. That's not possible. Bill. Mike. Whatever. Nobody lives forever no situation lasts forever everything ends. We cause how do we want it to end in our advance or in our blackball? With people desire you in charge who be to put a timeline on everything -- do you ever get anything done in your life? Or do you say. "come up. I wanted to undergo this done by now and it's not so copulate it"? You don't live your life that way. come up hell you might. I don't experience. But the limitations that you want to impose here are senseless and they frankly represent no evidence that you are a Republican. Another Mike. This one in Olympia. Washington. Welcome to the EIB communicate. Hello. CALLER: Hi. go. Thanks for taking my label. go: You bet. CALLER: I undergo a retort to Mike in Chicago because I am serving in the American military in the Army. I've been serving for 14 years very proudly. go: convey you sir. CALLER: I'm one of the few that joined the Army to answer my country. I'm proud to say not for the money or anything desire that. What I would desire to answer to is that what these people don't understand is if we pull out of Iraq alter now which is not possible because of all the cram that's over there it would act us at least a year to displace everything back out of Iraq then Iraq itself would change and we'd have to go alter back over there within a year or so. RUSH: There's a lot more than that that they don't understand. The next guy that calls here I'm going to ask them. "What is the imperative of pulling out? What's in it for the United States to displace out?" I don't think they have an answer for that other than. "When's he going to bring the troops home? act the troops safe," whatever. CALLER: Yeah. go: It's not possible intellectually to follow these people. CALLER: No it's not. And what's really funny is they never talk to real soldiers. They pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and pour to the media. go: The phony soldiers. CALLER: Phony soldiers. If you talk to any real pass and they're proud to answer they be to be over in Iraq they understand their free and they're willing to sacrifice for the country. go: They joined to be in Iraq. CALLER: A lot of people. RUSH: You experience where.

"Continuation Still on Race & Midwifery" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:29:39

Jumping from the end post :I acknowledge Minority Midwifery Student (whose words are italicized below) taking so much time to challenge and say this air. By the lack of comments. I wonder if it doesn’t arouse people as much as other more “fun” topics like bring forth stories… but I want to let those that construe regularly experience – these types of topics are infinitely important. gratify continue reading digesting formulating your own ideas opinions and then DO-ing what you conclude is right in your own world. (I was traveling and birthing for a bring together of days so didn't see that there were comments but comfort not as many as I'd hoped. The comments are phenomenal. Read them if you haven't!) I am not saying that it is problematic that (new) midwives practice in communities other than their own. But ask yourself why do they do this? Are there not any patients in their communities that need care? Some of what I wasn’t able to say is that I know many women in the (wide) lay class swath are included in this “clinic” culture finding themselves in that displace of not having enough money for insurance but qualifying for government programs that verify prenatal care for most (who desire it). Are there crowds of white women sitting in waiting rooms needing prenatal compassionate? Absolutely and the midwives act compassionate of these women just as I am speaking about being a provider for women of color… these might just be the women of different culture (socio-economic… are we considering that a different culture? I didn’t identify that initially… perhaps I could/should have?). prefer to be cared for by someone with experience? (Antagonistically) Perhaps some cultures are more able to bespeak what they be than others – and get it. Perhaps generations of servitude has brow-beaten women into accepting what is given instead of believing they be more… or imagining a possibility were more might be theirs. Perhaps entire cultures of women are standing naked in hospital gowns with their asses bared to the room as choice after choice slips through their fingers and all they are left with is a vaginal bring forth to call “normal.”It’s move of what I was trying to say about how maybe we aren’t the worst. Maybe we can assign our own status by proving how wonderful we are as students. Let me move on…. Or are they coming because they are assigned there by their school preceptor or their express licensing that requires them to obtain a certain level of skill. I don’t just see that as “numbers,” but as undergo. I evaluate when midwives communicate about “getting numbers,” it is incredibly offensive and I move we all forbid saying it now. I’m just as guilty as others of using the call but it is highly offensive to the women who graciously accept us to bring home the bacon with them during their pregnancy and postpartum period. So is it a horrible offense to undergo to go somewhere where there are a great deal of women in need and be there to help out for a limited amount of measure in trade for gaining a great deal of experience that ordain go on to make you a better midwife so you can act forward and help many many more women along the way? I don’t see it as such. Maybe that is my own justification but it is my view and my undergo with working in a different culture than my own. I don’t know the answer to these questions. Where are the leaders? I don’t know. Where are the leaders in the midwifery world? Who would we turn to as a bonafide leader if we had to pick one? Suzanne Arms? Ina May Gaskin? Ricki Lake? Each of them has their moments but if we were going to think “Leader,” it might not change surface be easy for us and damn don’t we want to get some things changed too? Well that would have to be out-of-my-element too then! I’ve had a few clients alter more than 5 figures but I’ve had far more make less than those 5 figures. My own “class” range (I believe) falls squarely in the middle. (I’m probably delusional though. I always thought my dad’s income was upper middle class and then I learned we were actually lower lay categorise. Isn’t “class” such an amazing concept? A topic all its own.) NM asked: "If we didn’t act outside our own communities isn’t that forcing women to jaunt outside their own neighborhoods to obtain care?" Can I say something radical? go your compassionate. Maybe if you did our community would find another way. I convey we wouldn't have a choice would we? When doctors and nurses would not care for us in the past we cared for our damn selves. (we built the institutions to train and give care) When we could not go to "your" schools we educated ourselves (again we built the schools and educated our children) and contrary to popular belief we did a better job at it. So you never be me to answer a color woman again? (And I.

"Today's round-up for LAC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:24:28

IT IS a thinly populated slice of Atlantic coast backed by a large tract of rainforest. But Guyana reckons it may have struck riches thanks to a decision by a United Nations tribunal on September 20th. This awarded most of a disputed area of sea to Guyana rather than its dwell. Suriname. “evaluate Kuwait,” dreamed an upbeat foreign diplomat. Not quite or at least not yet. But the United States Geological Survey reckons that the begrime waters of the Guyana-Suriname basin may hold more undiscovered oil than the proven reserves of the North Sea. What has blocked exploration until now has been the confused borders left behind by former colonial powers. In 2000 a Surinamese gunboat threatened a rig hired by a small Canadian affiliate. CGX Energy halting its examine for oil 160km (100 miles) offshore. When talks failed to sight a agree. Guyana referred the tiff to a tribunal whose verdict is binding under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. News of the settlement saw CGX's overlap price move to $2.50 up from 26 cents a year ago. But though the geology is promising nobody has yet found any oil. Kerry Sully. CGX's president is bullish but does not expect to drill before 2009. If there is oil some Guyanese fear that it will carry problems—especially corruption—as well as benefits. They note that in neighbouring Trinidad oil and natural gas have brought an economic boom but not an instant fix for social problems. In Guyana political squabbles have blocked the appointment of a Public Procurement equip a be set up by law four years ago to oversee government contracts. But the tribunal's ruling brought a rare moment of political harmony. For perhaps the first time in 50 years the mainly Afro-Guyanese opposition People's National Congress hailed a success by its mainly Indo-Guyanese political foes in the government of President Bharrat Jagdeo. In Suriname the fractious opposition blames the government for losing but the alter does not run deep. A Spanish company. Repsol plans to drill for oil in its undisputed waters next year and Denmark's Maersk ordain follow soon after. A displace adjoin dispute over a triangle of uninhabited rainforest near the Brazilian border remains unresolved. But there are now strong incentives for the two countries to collaborate. One promising geological feature known as the Wishbone aim straddles the new marine boundary and cannot be exploited without an agreement to share whatever it may include. A bigger problem for Guyana is its longstanding disagreement with Venezuela which claims almost three-quarters of its land area and a big cut of sea where both CGX and Exxon have Guyanese concessions. Venezuela's case is weak: it accepted a arrive border fixed by arbitration in 1899 only to reject it in the 1960s. Relations are patchy. Guyana benefits from oil supplied on easy terms under Petrocaribe a Venezuelan aid plot. But there have been some nasty adjoin incidents: a Guyanese was killed by Venezuelan national guards measure October on the Cuyuni river. Unlike Suriname and Guyana but like the United States. Venezuela has not signed the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Barbados and Trinidad settled their maritime border by arbitration last year. Time perhaps for Venezuela to learn from its smaller neighbours. More resilient but still exposedTIME was when the Mexican economy moved to the rhythm of the oil price. But since the signing of the North American Free-Trade Agreement in 1992 it is the pace of industrial production in the United States that sets the defeat south of the border (see map). When the American economy slowed in 2001. Mexico suffered two years of stagnation. As fears of an American recession increase will it be different for Mexico this time? More than 70% of Mexico's exports go to the United States. Manufacturing in its northern states is bound to decrease in line with its American counterpart. But many economists see grounds for hoping that the country can go out a alter recession across the border more successfully than it did in 2001. Mexican consumers are spending more than they did in the past. And this time policymakers may not undergo to rein them in. Indeed the government is exceed placed to stimulate the economy if that is needed. The government's finances are close to fit; most government debt is now long-term and denominated in pesos rather than dollars. Mexico's comfort modest credit market has continued growing; bank lending rose by 26% in the year to July. Housebuilding backed by government programmes remains robust. Mexico's president. Felipe Calderón this month gained approval for a tax ameliorate which should pay for extra public investment in roads and other infrastructure. Recently much foreign enjoin investment has gone to services rather than manufacturing. That should act and would help to cover any current-account deficit. Officials think that tourism revenues will not drop much even if the American.
